...because they are on three sides! Perfect for paddling, digging in the sand, lounging in beach chairs, or an invigorating dip in the sea. The striking diversity that is a feature of Sylt has something for every taste. Everyone finds his place in the sun on its fine sandy beaches.
There are clothed and naturist beaches, with sections for dog-owners and surfers. For those seeking physical exercise, there is a range of enjoyable sporting activities from morning gymnastics to volleyball. The incomparable landscape of sand dunes and heather known as the Hörnum Odde offers long inviting walks round the southern tip of the island. And for the pleasures of the palate, there is a variety of culinary treats on offer at bistros and restaurants on the east and west beaches.
The east beach (for clothed bathers only) is family-orientated and easy to reach via the harbour promenade, just below the lighthouse. The North Sea is at its gentlest and mildest here, ideal for families with small children. There are opportunities galore for fun and games, with trampolines, “pitpat” (a cross between minigolf and billiards), volleyball and beach soccer. There is the Südkap (“South Cape”) beach restaurant, plus all the cafés, restaurants and shops you could desire in the nearby resort centre.
By contrast, the invigorating North Sea surf awaits you on the west beaches.
The steps to the main beach, the Breizh Restaurant and public toilets can be reached by the new barrier-free serpentine path from the Strandweg. Step-free access to the beach is a little further south at the naturist beach off Süderende. Parking is available just a short walk away on the Rantumer Straße. There is no public parking on Strandweg or immediately adjacent to the beach.
There is step-free access to the beaches in north Hörnum via Gurtdeel. Our beach service staff are on hand to help and advise you. There is access for youth groups in the northern section, while to the south the beach adjoins the camping site. A beach chair service is available from the campsite office, and you will find food and refreshment in the Meermann restaurant. A little further south, level with the motorhome park, is our surfers’ beach.
The naturist beaches lie south of the main textile beach and have step-free access next to the Kap Horn beach restaurant off Süderende. The southernmost section is reserved for naturist bathers with dogs. The Hörnum beach sauna is a short walk away, and our beach chair service is available here too.
Dogs revel in the wide beaches and refreshing North Sea, and we have designated dog beaches on parts of the west coast: the dog beach for naturists is just south of the Kap Horn access, while the beach for clothed dog owners is accessible via Aralsteg. Our customer service staff at the main access on Strandweg are happy to help or answer your questions.
